My feet dipped gently into the water
neither emanating cool or warmth
A small crack of light, rays through
and is harnessed into the luminescent pool.
And then I see the deeper parts start to
ripple and stir the surrounding and
quicker and quicker it builds upwards and
shoots across the room to show you.
Perhaps a siren, although I'd like to think
you're a ghost of someone I once knew.
You beckon to me to walk with as you
wait outside. And I feel comfort knowing
in that you know me.
Across the ferns, you offer to take me through
the island's waterfalls and moss-ridden bogs
Across the hues of green and brown and blue
But I cannot say yes. It's not what I'm here to do
The sights you insist on, I shall not see.
"only one thing, then" I feel you persist.
Fine.
Reluctantly, I follow your footsteps
And you lead me again toward my
memories, old and long and forgotten
left to dust or treasured forever. And
I feel comfort in that you know me.
